Am I right, or am I wrong?
(By a guy named, "Joel")

Dear friends,

1.  Under Saddam, Iraq was one of the few nations in the middle east which was not ruled by an Islamic dictator. Saddam's Iraq was the only nation in the middle east where the women worked, held government jobs, voted, and didn't have to wear burkas.

2.  Many of Saddam's opponents were Islamic fundamentalists, who wanted to rule Iraq according to the Koran. (Burkas for the women; beards for the men; and the law carried out by sword.)

3. Saddam's political opponents (the Islamic extremists) lived in the Kurdish North, as well as the Shi'ite South.........which is where all of the mass graves are located.

4. During Gulf War I, when the U.S. kicked the Iraqi army out of Kuwait, the U.S. government imposed a no-fly-zone over the Kurdish north, as well as the Shi'ite south. Both portions of Iraq were placed off-limits to Saddam's control. Since 1991, (twelve years) the U.S. protected the Islamic fundamentalists in both the northern and southern regions of Iraq.

5. When the U.S. took out Saddam, we opened the door for the Islamic fundamentalists of the northern and southern regions of Iraq, who now face limited opposition to their attempt to rule Iraq, according to their religious beliefs.

6. The people we are fighting in Iraq today, are the people of the Kurdish north and the Shi'ite south, who now see an opportunity to take control of Iraq, and to then rule it according to their religious doctrines. Our opponents are the very same people we've been protecting for the past 12 years.

7. U.S. troops in Iraq are now being attacked by the very religious fundamentalists the U.S. had accused Saddam of torturing, murdering, and imprisoning.

8. Most of the bombing going on in Iraq, today, is not directed at U.S. forces. Instead, it is a religious battle taking place between two different religious sects. These religious sects are both Islam in nature, but they are of two different churches. (ie.....Baptists v. Protestants)

9. By creating a democratic and free Iraq, all we did was establish a situation that will breed further bloodshed. The Kurds and the Shi'ites will now battle each other in the courts, as well as in the streets. Eventually, one side will win control of the government, and the other will then be put to death by Iraqi troops.......as being infidels. This is how Islamic democracies work.

10. Ten or fifteen years from now, the U.S. will again ask our soldiers to help stabilize the region........and again, we will probably pick the wrong side. Our foreign record is now about 0-34 -- in favor of the dictators we've put into office. Never once has the U.S. successfully installed a foreign leader. In every case, we've had to go back and take him out. In every case, we've made enemies along the way. It seems we never learn from our mistakes.

Do I have things right?

"Joel"
